Mini POPs Presents: Shrek The Musical Jr.


Mini POPs is a magical place where young people have the opportunity to shine!  We focus on the whole child, and create an atmosphere of teamwork, focus, self-confidence and passion. Our award-winning career educators have performed and directed professionally across multiple platforms.​

Our Mini POPs serves up to 40 students in each of our three casts. We offer one musical in the Fall, and one in the Spring, two performances each cast. All who register audition and are placed!


Whether selling concessions, taking tickets or helping with set building, we always appreciate the help of our families in making our productions a success!


Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. Part romance and part quirky fairy tale, Shrek JR. is fantasticly fun show with a powerful message about celebrating who you are and everything that makes you unique and special!

Payment of $270 billed upon registration.

Additional payments of  $135 on Sep.1st, Oct.1st, Nov. 1st, & Dec.1st.

Costume ($75) and mandatory tickets ($255) billed on Jan. 2nd.


Meet the Shrek Production Team


Ashley Henley Chase

Ashley is proud to be the POPs Producer and Director of Tech Artisans. A child of humble beginnings, Ashley grew up doing shows at school and in community theater. After receiving her BA in Drama, Honors in Stage Management – Ashley freelanced as a stage manager; working with such companies as Dallas Theater Center and The Geffen Playhouse. Eventually Ashley landed at POPs where she found her home. Ashley recognizes the empowering and healing properties of theater and the family and community it creates. It is a dream come true to pass that gift along to the future generation of theater-makers both on AND offstage! 



Evie Hutton - Director/Choreographer

   Evie Hutton, a native Austinite and graduate of the University of Oklahoma, performed in musicals around the world before moving to LA and falling in love with California.  POPS has become her home away from home as she adores this team and these amazing actors and actresses who share their hearts and bravery with her daily. Select choreography and direction credits: The Little Mermaid, Camp Rock, 13, Alice in Wonderland, Schoolhouse Rock Live!, Charlotte's Web, High School Musical 2, Mrs. Scrooge.  Evie lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Ian, and her two sons, Caleb and Colin. 




Kelly Ann Burningham - Assistant Director/Choreographer

      Kelly grew up in the SF Bay Area and started dancing at 3. After high school, her focus shifted to acting. She graduated from PCPA’s acting conservatory, and then earned her BFA in Acting from Utah State University. She taught acting and musical theatre at the Utah Festival Opera Conservatory before moving to the South Bay. She’s worked professionally in shows such as Noises Off!, Singing in the Rain, Fiddler on the Roof, Spamalot, and Cyrano. She is also a registered yoga instructor. Kelly loves empowering others with the tools to help them grow as artists and as people.  



Khalid McGhee - Music Director

Khalid McGhee is a graduate of the Northern Arizona University School of Music where he studied classical piano performance under Dr. Frank Scott, Ms. Rita Borden and Dr. Jeffrey Swann. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Khalid grew up immersed in a wide range of musical styles, including gospel, jazz, musical theater and classical. He has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and vocal coach throughout the United States and Europe. He recently completed a piano fellowship at the Institut für Musik in Osnabrück, Germany, under the tutelage of renowned belarusian concert-pianist, Tatiana Liakh. An alumnus of El Sistema’s Orchestrating Diversity, Khalid is also a dedicated educator who firmly believes in using music as a tool for empowerment and social mobility. He is a Teaching Artist for Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network where he teaches music at local juvenile detention centers, and also works as a freelance pianist in the Greater LA region. He is excited to join POPs as Resident Music Director! 


Madison Huckaby - Stage Manager

Madison is humbled and excited to be part of the POPs team! She is a graduate of Chapman University and has stage managed all over LA, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. She recently worked with the Miss California local competitions, Industry Dance Awards, and Alien-Con with Mischief Management. When Madison is not inside a theatre, she can be found at working at Disneyland, storytelling with characters where she has been for the past five years. .
